Anticipated Assistant or Associate Professor
LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY AND SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY
(TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION)


Louisiana State University (LSU) and Southern Universit (SU) in partnership with the National Science Foundation and the Louisiana Board of Regents have established a Joint Faculty appointment Program (JFAP) in the area of high performance networking. LSU is the only research I university in Louisiana, while SU is a major Historically Black College and University (HBCU). These universities are only eight miles apart in Baton Rouge, the capital city of Louisiana, with many ongoing joint curricula and collaborative research projects. The partnership wishes to increase the diversity of engineering education in Louisiana. Through this JFAP, one tenure-track faculty positions are available at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, designated as a LaSER assistant/associate professor. The appointment will begin Fall Semester of 2002. The successful candidates will have a 50% faculty appointment in each university, and fringe benefits will be appropriately arranged. Special provisions for this position includes ;(i) a $120,000 start-up fund for two years; to be used for (a) establishing a research lab; (b) up to two summer months salary per year for two years; (c) graduate and undergraduate student support; (d) travel, and (e) materials and supplies. (ii) a full usage of teaching and research resources at both universities as well as full privileges of a regular faculty member at both universities. An earned Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field with expertise in Telecommunications and Networking, Distributed Computing and related areas are preferred. Candidates possessing experience in High Performance Computing and Communication, teaching and/or industrial experience, and strong demonstrated research funding and publications record are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidates are expected to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and develop externally funded research programs. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Computer Science at LSU offers the BS (Computer Science) MS (Systems Science) and Ph.D. degrees with approximately 250, 60, and 45 students, respectively. They receive federal grants of about 1$ million/year fro AFOSR, DOE, NASA, DARPA, NSF, and other agencies. The Southern University presently offers a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Engineering Program, with an option in Telecommunication and Networking. A Ph.D. in Engineering Program is expected to be initiated during Fall 2003, supporting the same option.
