Date: Oct 26, 2007
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: 256 Coates Hall

Lt Col Leemon Baird, Ph.D, Associate Professor and Director of Research
US Air Force Academy

Bio:
Lt Col Baird is an associate professor and the Director of Research in the Department of Computer Science at the Air Force Academy. He is also a researcher in the Academy Center for Information Security. He has a PhD in Computer Science is from Carnegie Mellon University (1999), and a BS in Computer Science is from the Air Force Academy (1989). His research interests include computer security, jam-resistant communication, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Abstract:
Lt Col Baird will give an overview of computer security research at the Air Force Academy. In particular the recent breakthroughs in jam resistance will be described. This is a new set of algorithms and codes that constitute the first system ever designed that can do jam-resistant, omnidirectional radio communication without any secret key shared between the sender and receiver. This led to a new field of coding theory: concurrent codes. The application of concurrent codes to information retrieval will also be discussed, which is an ongoing collaboration between the Academy and Don Kraft at LSU.

All are welcome to attend.
