The department has many fellowships for doctoral students sponsored by the Board of Regents Louisiana Education Quality Support Fund. The minimum a
cceptable grade point average (GPA) will be 3.5 on a 4.0 grading scale for both undergraduate and graduate work. In addition, the minimum acceptable s
core on the verbal plus the quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) must be 1250.
Applicants will have to provide transcripts from all colleges attended, and they must be graduates of accredited institutions of higher education i
n order to be eligible for the proposed fellowships. In addition, at least three letters of recommendation must be provided from individuals who are f
amiliar with the prospective fellow's academic potential. Moreover, the candidates must provide detailed statements of research interests and academic
objectives.
The stipend for each fellow will be $18,000 per year and a full tuition waiver, for a maximum of four years.
Exceptions will be considered as in the policy for the LSU Alumni Federation Fellowship program. This includes consideration for minority students
with a good GPA and excellent letters of recommendation. In addition, students with exceptionally high GPA's but slightly lower GRE scores, or vice ve
rsa, will be given some consideration. Finally, students with slightly lower GPA's from superior universities who majored in computer science will be
given some consideration. In any case, it must be understood that these fellowships are to be considered as highly prestigious awards, and they will b
e awarded competitively.
Only U.S. citizens or resident aliens are eligible for this fellowship. For more details contact
