The Computer Science Ph.D. Written General Examination will be given this spring starting March 13, 2006. A "Ph.D. Written General Examination Application Form" must be completed and filed with the Computer Science Department by March 3, 2006 for each student taking this examination. "Ph.D. Written General Examination Application Forms" are available for the General Exam online at the following URL: http://bit.csc.lsu.edu/forms/GeneralPHDExamForm.pdf
Completed forms should be returned to Mrs. Vera Watkins in the Computer Science Departmental Office. There will be two different general exams this fall: one will be closed book the "old general exam" and the other will be open book the "new general exam."

The schedule for the old general exam. will be:

Area 1:	Operating Systems and Computer Architectures, November 7, 2005.
Area 2:	Algorithms, Data Structures, and Theory of Computation, November 9, 2005.
Area 3:	Programming Languages and Compiler Design, Friday November 11, 2005.
Area 4:	High Performance Computing, Monday November 14, 2005.
Area 5:	All Remaining Areas, Wednesday November 16, 2005.

The schedule for the new general exam. will be:

1. Theory of Computation:	Monday November 7, 2005
2. Algorithms:	Tuesday November 8, 2005
3. Operating Systems:	Wednesday November 9, 2005
4. Computer Architectures:	Thursday November 10, 2005
5. Programming Languages:	Friday November 11, 2005

All exams will be in 164 Coates Hall between 9 am and noon.
