
The Department of Computer Scince is pleased to report that one of our former Ph. D. students Dr. Nagi Rao
(currently a Distinguished Scientist at Oak Ridge National Lab.) has won a very prestigious award by the IEEE
Computer Society. The award is titled the
"2005 Technical Achievement
Award" and is given to Dr. Rao
"For contributions to the design and analysis of
information fusion methods with rigorous performance guarantees and efficient implementations applied
to a number of practical problems." This is a hot and emerging area
in data analysis and processing and beyond. Please note that Dr. Rao graduated from LSU with the Ph. D. in Computer
Science in 1988 with Dr. Iyengar as his major professor.
He has been a lead investigator at ORNL in a new networking
infrastructure titled UltraScience Net funded by DOE.
This award will be presented during the IEEE board meetings the week of 12-16 June 2006 in San Juan, Puerto Rico or 30
October- 3 November 2006 in San Diego, CA. This award is presented to Individuals whose professional
work has been outstanding and innovative in the fields of computer and information science
and engineering within the past fifteen years.
