RRL equipment includes 2 Silicon Graphics Power series workstations and 2 DEC 5000/240 high-performance RISC-based graphics workstations dedicated for research into image processing and simulation / animation of robot motion. Each of ths Silicon Graphics units is capable of accepting input from a video camera and performing near real-time analysis of the acquired images. This equipment was funded by grant from LEQSF to support research into machine vision and related problems. In addition to the above equipment, the lab is equipped with various robotics manipulators, DEC and SUN workstations, several Macintosh II's and PC's, and a HERO robot. The RRL is continuously upgrading its facilities to expand research capabilites. This is especially true of the Denning MRV III robot. At present, RRL is in the process of adding several additional features to the MRV III, most notably a vision sub-system. With regard to off-site equipment, as part of the joint research effort with the department of Physics and Astronomy, RRL has a access to a new, 8k node MasPar MP1, massively parallel processor for research into parallel computation. This machine is equipped with a number of special features, including a high-performance graphics substation for a real-time imaging of computation results.
